Watari supplies fresh produce to major supermarket chains nationwide as a vendor, but its role doesn’t stop there. Watari also takes on the task of revitalizing produce sections at stores, aiming to find ways to encourage customers to purchase fresh produce and to cultivate more fans of fruit and vegetables. This includes handling everything from planning and executing events to designing and creating promotional tools.
For instance, Watari has frequently collaborated with JA Tokachi Ikeda Town to hold the Tokachi Ikeda Town Fair at our partner supermarkets. These events have also welcomed participation from local growers who grow agricultural products in Ikeda Town. The growers have shared positive feedback, such as saying “It was wonderful to hear directly from the consumers who enjoy their products!”.

Many of the fresh produce items packaged by Watari feature unique labels that can’t be found anywhere else. These labels often include charming photos of growers and their families, adding a friendly touch to the products that have been well-received by consumers, and encouraging them to make a purchase.
Of course, these labels are designed in-house by Watari’s own designers. Additionally, some labels come with QR codes that provide access to recipes and product information when scanned with a smartphone. This is another unique idea that only Watari can offer.

At Watari, several staff are qualified as registered dietitians, chefs, and vegetable sommeliers. To widely share the appeal of vegetables and fruit, they develop a variety of original recipes and conduct promotional activities in stores to propose new ways to enjoy fresh produce.
Naturally, our staff from other divisions also participate in these store events. Watari has been engaged in such promotional activities for fresh produce for over 35 years, which is a unique feature of ours that sets us apart from other fresh produce companies in Japan.
